Most conversations about a TTO trade in stall at the same point. Not on whether the machine needs replacing, but on what happens next.
What does the replacement actually cost. How long does the line stop for. Who takes the old machine away. Does any of this work if the printer on the line isn’t a Markem-Imaje in the first place.
This month M Pack is taking any older TTO off the line and replacing it with a new Markem-Imaje SmartDate® at a competitive price, whatever brand is on the line today. Here is what is actually involved.
Any brand means any brand
This is the part most people assume is a catch. It isn’t.
If you are running a Domino, a Videojet, a Linx or an older Markem-Imaje unit, it is eligible. Age is not a barrier either. Out of support, missing spares, partly cannibalised – we will still take it away.
The reason is straightforward. We are not buying your old machine for what it is worth. We are removing an obstacle to putting a better one on the line.
How the TTO trade in works
There is no separate valuation exercise, and no waiting on a figure for the old unit. You get one price for the new SmartDate®, and the trade-in is already built into it.
The difference between that price and what a new machine costs outright is the value of your trade-in. You do not have to argue for it line by line, and we do not have to inspect a machine we are going to remove anyway.
It keeps the conversation on the right question. Not what an ageing coder is worth on the open market, which is very little, but what it costs you to keep running it.
How long the line stops
Less time than most people budget for.
A TTO changeover is a mechanical swap and a configuration transfer. The bracketry is the variable, not the printer. On a straightforward like-for-like mount, a changeover fits comfortably inside a planned maintenance window. Where the existing mount is bespoke or the print position is moving, it takes longer and we will tell you that before you commit rather than on the day.
Code layouts transfer across. Date formats, batch codes, barcodes and 2D codes are rebuilt in CoLOS® Designer rather than re-typed by an operator, so what printed on Friday prints the same on Monday.
What happens to the old machine
It goes with us. You are not left with a decommissioned coder in a corner of the warehouse, and you are not arranging disposal.
Three questions worth asking before you commit
- What is the price, installed and running? One number, not a base price with extras behind it.
- What is the total downtime, including bracketry? The printer swap is the easy part.
- Who transfers the code layouts? If the answer is your operators, factor that in.
Those four apply whoever you buy from, not just us.
